Give It Up

One of my passions is writing. I love poetry, the written word, expression in every form. I love people. The energy, the drive, the courage, the humor, the intelligence and ingenuity. With all of the positives, I love also, the ability to be vulnerable, emotional, sensitive, basically exposed. Talking with a friend today I posed the question to “Tell me the last time you saw something beautiful”…and this is what he said:

"I went to visit my mentor/friend/church member at his office on Friday, so we could talk and build, and his wife stopped by the office. When she came in, as she was walking down the hall, he turned, saw her, and said, merely by reflex, "DANG! Is that my wife!?!?!" From there he just stopped and watched her walk towards us, exhaling. They have been married for years, have 4 children, and he still gets giddy when he sees his wife. I absolutely loved it. It was so genuine..."

I talk about finding your passion in the things that you do, quit your job, be happy instead of going through the motions. However, know that declaration goes further than how you make money. It extends to people, the ones you love and learn. It’s important to spend your time instead of wasting it. Spending, you tend to know what you’re doing with it, wasting, you wake up with regrets.

Give someone your very best this week. Let them know how much you care about them. Make someone’s day brighter with your smile. You already know it’s time for a quote to keep you until the next time.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters

compared to what lies within us.
~ by Ralph Waldo Emerson ~

I would love to hear from you as well. Tell me the last time you saw something beautiful, what it was, and how it made you feel. I looking forward to your responses.

  1. Ok Jade (see I remember from college), the last time I saw something beautiful was this morning. Of course every day I look at my children and think they are the prettiest little girls in the world. But this morning I caught sight of something else. I caught my honey looking at me. I guess he always does but this morning it was different. There was a look of passion, excitement, and everlasting love. When he looked at me the way he did, I finally felt like he was committed to sharing the rest of his life with me. Before I knew it because he said it, but on this day I felt it. It felt so real. It was beautiful and I have been on cloud 9 ever since.

  2. Today the thing that I saw that was beautiful, was Sincere's face when he saw that Tony was with me picking him up from daycare. He just looked at me, then back at Tony as if he couldn't believe it. It made sad and happy all in one. He raised his arms for Tony to pick him up, and then he gave him the biggest little guy hug in the world. Tony hugged him back, smiled and said, "You happy to see Daddy man?" It was all "beauiful"!

  3. The most beautiful display of love I have seen recently was my brother enjoying playtime with his baby daughter. She loves her daddy so much and he loves her more. Her face lights up when she sees him. And when you see them together it seems as if nothing else exists in their world but them. A lot of lifes happy moments for me involve children. I believe it is because they are so innocent and the way they view life is perfect. They find joy in the little things. Something we often forget to do as adults.

  4. Ah man that account from your friend truely captured something beautiful. I'm so glad to see you writing!!! Yesterday i looked up to the sky. To my right, the sun was beaming and the sky was bright and to my left the sky was cloudy and what we may call gloomy. But as I watched the clouds on the left move to reveal sun beams, i reflected on the magnificent beauty and power of our Creator. And I smiled :-)

  5. This made me think a lot. Has it really been that long since I saw something beautiful?? So I grabbed a beer and headed to the roof top for the first time since moving in. I saw the sunset over the Olympic Mountains and there it was. Then this made me realize that everything around us is beautiful...we just got to take the time to appreciate it I guess. I mean, this view has been here for me all this time...but I never made the time to go up there. It seemed really peaceful watching the sunset. Its been a very long time since I've seen an actual sunset. I need a vacation.
